Life can change in the blink of an eye. Learning to appreciate the present and live it fully is the greatest gain of our lives. In this episode of the Behind Their Business podcast, Jan Hoath shares how she was one of the people who had to learn this the hard way. The death of her mother-in-law in 2007 changed her husband’s life and hers forever.
After retiring, Jan’s in-laws traveled to the United States to spend their first Thanksgiving. The Australian nationals decided to explore the city by bike when a driving error took the life of Jan’s mother-in-law, who was just beginning to enjoy a new phase of her life. The tragedies in our guest’s life did not end there since, after a family death, a cancer scare came.
“Nobody knows when our journey is going to end.”
At six weeks old, her youngest son confronted a disease that, according to the medical report, seemed to be a type of cancer that affected one of the newborn’s upper extremities. After experiencing some tragedies in her life, this incredible woman decided to turn her sadness into strength and start creating her own business.
“You are destined to help someone in some way. If you get paid, it’s even better.”
Jan Hoath is a speaker, teacher, coach, and writer who helps people to change their lives and live in the present moment from a place of authentic joy and playfulness.
“Joy is a muscle that is built over time and requires maintenance.”
Jan tells us that living in the present moment gives you a new perspective of the world. It allows us to appreciate what surrounds us, such as the beauty of the flowers, the warmth of the sun, and the sound of the trees transmitting peace. Honor the moments that life offers you, be they good or bad. Live in the present moment and value everything in your life, no matter how small.
“Be present, don’t worry about what will happen in the future.”
We cannot change the things that happened in our past, but we can change those in our future by living in the present with JOY!
